Seminar for livestock owners in NE Washington

WSU Stevens County Extension’s is holding a one-evening seminar to help regional livestock owners be prepared this year for the aftermath of last year’s record breaking fire season. Included in the event will be two 50 minute presentations described below.

When: 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM, May 16th 2016

Where: WSU Stevens County Extension, 986 S. Main, Colville WA

Registration: Free and open to the public. No pre-registration necessary.

Two Pesticide License re-certification credits have been applied for to the WSDA for this event.

3:00 – 3:50 Bluetongue – Who’s at Risk?

Presented by Paul Kuber, WSU North East Regional Livestock Extension Specialist

This talk will focus on the Disease origin of bluetongue and which Animals that are at risk, as well as prevention and treatment of the disease. It will also cover factors which may cause bluetongue to show up in an area not normally affected by the disease.

4:00 – 4:50 Fire Season Aftermath – What Livestock Producers Should Know in NE Washington

Presented by Paul Kuber, WSU North East Regional Livestock Extension Specialist

This talk will focus on what livestock producers need to be aware of regarding land management and health of food producing animals in areas affected by fire. Included will be a discussion of potential problems likely to result from changes in environmental normality.  Discussion will include how best to deal with invasive plant life, nutritional deficiencies in grazing animals, and with disease and parasite issues.
